Palpable apprehension is said to have gripped the Delta state house of Assembly following the alarm raised by former political aides to ousted Speaker of the House, Monday Igbuya, accusing the current speaker, Sheriff Oborivwori and other principal officers of conspiracy to deny them their entitlements.
The aides alleged that plans are already perfected by the present leadership of the House to deny them of their legitimate entitlements during the period they served as appointees to the former Speaker.
Mr. Igbuya who was elected Speaker in June 2015 was impeached by his colleagues in May, this year.
It was gathered that furniture allowances of his political appointees were not paid during the two-year period as a result of the downturn of the economy occasioned by recession.
However, as the economy begins to pick up, our correspondent learnt that there are plans to pay furniture allowance to aides of lawmakers with the names of the former aides to the former Speaker surreptitiously missing.
An inside source told our correspondent that the directive to remove the names of the former appointees was handed down by the present leadership of the House.
But the affected former appointees are not taking the matter lightly as they have forwarded a formal petition to the state governor, Ifeanyi Okowa over the issue.
In a letter dated November 15, 2017, entitled, “A Formal Complaint Over Non Inclusion in the List of Furniture Allowance Beneficiaries of the Delta State House of Assembly as Compiled by the Present Leadership of the House” and mailed to this medium.
According to the petition, the former appointees insisted that they “Are legally entitled to furniture allowance as contained in our appointment letters hence we are among the beneficiaries of the furniture allowance.
“We are notifying you in order for you to use your good office to include our names in the list of beneficiaries of furniture allowance for political aides to Speaker and honourable members of the Delta State House of Assembly as a right and not privilege.” the petition asserted.
