The chairman of Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State, Godwin Ogorugba has joined thousands of Isoko sons and daughters to call on the Inspector General of Police to release the Isoko comedian , Ajirioghene Otagba popularly known as MC 2Kingdom.
The Nigeria Police Force detained MC 2Kingdom last Friday, allegedly under the orders of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) contractor Matthew Edevbie.
The arrest followed a Facebook video posted by the comedian, in which he criticised the abandonment of the Isoko 132 KVA substation electricity project.
It was learned that Matthew Edevbie, elder brother of former Delta State finance commissioner and PDP governorship aspirant David Edevbie, filed a petition accusing Otagba of defamation and cyberstalking. The comedian, initially arrested by the IG Monitoring Unit in Lagos State, has been transferred to the Maitama Area Command in Abuja.
Condemning the arrest of the comedian in a statement by the chairman of Isoko North council, Godwin Ogorugba and made available to news men, expressed displeasure and frown at the arrest of the Isoko’s illustrious son who was agitating for the completion of an abandoned 132KVA Sub-station Electricity project at Ozoro and awarded to Income Electrix Limited owned by Matthew Edevbie.
“Every public office holder and contractor handling public projects must be subjected to public scrutiny to ensure full compliance and completion of such projects. I want to use this opportunity to call on all contractors who have abandoned projects awarded to them in Isoko Nation to move to sites and ensure that their projects are being completed. The Isoko people are becoming aware of abandoned projects that have put the Isoko Nation in a total darkness over the years.
“I also call on all Isoko political office holders and legal practitioners, especially those that are based in Abuja to wade heavily into the matter to ensure that Comrade Ajirioghene is released unconditionally. Let me also appeal to stakeholders, youth leaders and the good people of Isoko to remain calm to avoid breakdown of law and order. As the executive chairman of Isoko North council, I have been fully involved in monitoring and following-up on Otagba’s arrest from Lagos to Abujaband I urge all Isoko youths to be calm, Comrade Otagba will be released soonest.” Ogorugba assured.
Ogorugba however reiterated and re-assured the Isoko people especially citizens of Isoko North that the life of every Isoko North man or woman, young or old is very important to him and his administration, adding that, legal practitioner of Isoko origin that shows strong interest to secure the unconditional release of Comrade Otagba may contact him or his Isoko South counterpart, Friday Voke Warri for assistance to ensure that the release of the comedian is secured.
