In line with the World Health Organization’s “Roll Back Malaria” initiative, the chairman of Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta state, Godwin Ogorugba, has officially flagged off the distribution of mosquito nets across the local government.

Speaking on Monday at the flag-off ceremony held at the Otor-Igho community town hall, Ogorugba explained that the WHO’s “Roll Back Malaria” initiative has made mosquito net distribution a key strategy in preventing mosquito bites during sleep especially during the rainy season when mosquito activity increases.
“This distribution marks the formal commencement of the program. The government continues to support initiatives like this because prevention is better than cure. Let me use this medium to express my appreciation to the Governor of Delta State, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for the establishment of an optical hospital currently under construction in Iyede. Let me also thank the First Lady of the state for facilitating the provision of such a vital health facility in Isoko North.” and called for continued support for the governor and his administration.
“I want to commend you all for attending this event despite today being Owhe market day. Your presence here underscores the importance of this program,” Ogorugba added and urged beneficiaries to make proper use of the nets, emphasizing that while distribution is free, responsible usage is important even as he also called for continued support for the governor, the first lady, and the member representing Isoko North and South Federal constituency in the national Assembly, Jonathan Ukodhiko.

In her remarks, the wife of Isoko North council chairman, Dcns Veronica Ogorugba thanked the governor, his wife, and her husband for their support. She advised beneficiaries to use the mosquito nets correctly, stressing that the nets were provided free of charge to protect families from malaria. She warned against selling the nets and encouraged everyone to safeguard their health through proper use.
Hghlight of the event was the presentation of an award to the first lady of the council, Dcns Veronica Ogorugba by the Society for Family Health. She was recognized as a Net Advocate in Isoko North for her efforts in promoting public health and the distribution of the nets to beneficiaries.
Also present at the ceremony were the Secretary to the Local Government, Vote Umukoro, (Mrs) Mukoro O. Evelyn, House Committee Chairman on Health and councilor representing Ise- Emevor Ward, Egba Alison, councilor representing Ozoro Ward 2A, council supervisors, and other aides to the chairman.
In another development, the chairman of Isoko North council area, Godwin Ogorugba, has commended the Isoko National Youths Assembly (INYA) President, Eniwake Orogun and his team for completing the Isoko Youth permianent secretariat in Ozoro, describing it as a legacy project.
Ogorugba, who made the commendations during a courtesy visit by the Isoko Youths executive, applauding the Orogun led youth administration for their efforts in bringing the vision to fruition, stated that the project would further enhance the positive image of Isoko youths.
During the visit, Orogun stated that their visit was to remind to the council chairman for the upcoming commissioning of the Isoko National Youth Assembly secretariat.
He noted, “As the landlord, we thought it wise to remind you, sir, of the secretariat which shares the same premises with the council secretariat.”, Orogun stated.
