OPINION: Redefining Grassroots Governance: Ogorugba’s Legacy In Isoko North After One Year In Office

In just one year, Hon. (Elder) Prince Godwin Ogorugba has redefined governance and left an indelible mark on Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State.

Widely regarded as a performing chairman and sometimes referred to as a political working machine, Elder Ogorugba’s achievements speaks louder than any title.

As we say in Isoko, “He who roasts a wet goat is not a man of small means.” This proverb perfectly captures the magnitude of Ogorugba’s accomplishments. 

His administration has executed impactful projects that cut across infrastructure, health, education, social welfare, and administrative reforms, a testament to his unwavering commitment to the social contract he holds with the people of Isoko North.

ROAD INFRASTRUCTURE:

*Rehabilitation of Otor-Owhe–Owhelogbo Road.

*Rehabilitation of Etivie Road, Ozoro.

*Rehabilitation of Police Station Road, Emevor.

*Asphalt overlay on Otor-Iyede Road.

*Rehabilitation of Ubugo Street, Owhelogbo.

*Rehabilitation of Rev. Kolo Street, Owhelogbo.

*Rehabilitation of Asamage Street, Owhelogbo (including drainage repairs).

*Rehabilitation of Leo Ogor Road, Ozoro.

*Ongoing rehabilitation of internal roads within the Council Secretariat.

MARKET DEVELOPMENT:

*Construction of 15 lock-up stores and 4 restroom at Ofagbe Community Market.

*Renovation of 65 open stalls at Owhe Market, Otor-Owhe.

*Renovation of 60 open stalls at Aradhe Market.

*Construction of 60 open stalls at Owhe Market, Otor-Owhe.

*Rehabilitation of 30 open stalls at Owhelogbo Community Market.

EDUCATION:

*Distribution of free notebooks, sandals, school bags, and writing materials to over 9,000 pupils across 43 public primary schools.

*Ongoing construction of three class rooms block at Imoh Primary Iyede with convenience.

*Free enrollment for all Primary 6 pupils in public schools, positioning Isoko North as a model for near-free primary education.

WATER PROJECTS:

*Rehabilitation of water supply scheme at Ekiugbo-Iyede Community.

*Rehabilitation of water supply scheme at Otor-Igho Community.

HEALTHCARE INITIATIVES:

*Construction of nurses’ quarters and offices at Otor-Igho Primary Health Centre.

*Renovation of Isi-Emevor Health Centre.

Construction of nurses’ quarters at Oyede Health Centre.

*Ongoing construction of a Primary Health Centre at Oghara-Iyede Community.

ADMINISTRATIVE & CIVIC INFRASTRUCTURE:

*Construction of a new administrative complex at the Council Secretariat.

*Tiling of offices and walkways at the Secretariat.

*Installation of free internet service at the Council Secretariat.

*Provision of computers and printers to enhance administrative efficiency.

*Construction of a modern security gatehouse and perimeter fencing at the Secretariat.

*Renovation, fencing, and landscaping of Otor-Igho Community Town Hall.

*Ongoing construction of three bedrooms apartment for the Vice Chairman of the Local Government, Secretary, Head of Personnel Management and Treasurer.

HUMAN CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT:

*Training of over 50 youths on digital skills with starter pack that will be presented to them.

*Employment of over 70 casual staff.

*Appointments of over 100 side spread across the 13 wards. 

These achievements are only a glimpse of the transformational journey Elder Ogorugba has embarked on in just one year, all these have been embarked upon without external or internal borrowing with up to date salary payments of the council’s staff.

As his tenure progresses, the people of Isoko North can look forward to even more developmental strides that will uplift lives and strengthen communities.
