Warri Reaffirms Administration’s Zero Tolerance For Drug Abuse

In its determination to totally eradicate drug abuse and other societal vices, chairman of Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State, Friday Ovoke Warri, has reaffirmed his administration’s unshakeable dedication to a zero-tolerance policy to tackle the social menace in the area.

Warri who disclosed this Thursday during the local government security meeting held at the James Otobo Hall, Oleh, headquarters of the council, emphasized that his administration remains resolute in its anti-drug stance, as demonstrated by the establishment of the State Drug Control Committee. 

The council chairman urged youths to stay clear of drug abuse and other destructive behaviours, warning that their long-term consequences are devastating.

Warri however appealed to parents, community president generals, traditional rulers, and stakeholders to work together to nurture a responsible and drug-free generation, stressing that the future of society depends on the values instilled in its children and urged families to raise their children in accordance with godly principles.

“As Chairman, I am committed to serving my people. I can confidently say that, in collaboration with other agencies, we have started a massive manhunt for drug dealers. I have signed to serve the Isoko South people, and I’ll not stay away from it. 

“If you’re selling hard drugs, look for alternative business because we’re coming for you. There’s nothing we serve when we catch up with you. Those selling this substance are the greatest enemies of our society. 

“We are working diligently to rid Isoko South of illicit drugs. We must protect our future generations because we’ve so many young people who are terribly unstable.”

The council chairman used the opportunity to appeal to community president generals and the various stakeholders to tell their sons, daughters and wards from Isoko South to transfer their voting points back to their various home towns and called for mass participation in the ongoing INEC registration exercise.

Speaking on behalf of the traditional rulers in Isoko South, HRM Johnson Egbo, the Ovie of Emede kingdom, said the call for a campaign against drug abuse is a welcome development and promised to pass the message home to their various kingdoms as fathers. 

On his part, the president general of the Irri Federation, Adonis Ubuwere, stated that the call was timely and regarding voter registrations, he urged the political class to return home and lead the campaigns.

“Voter registration We’re not seeing our politicians encouraging our people to register or partake in the ongoing voter registration. Mr. Chairman, sir, tell your colleagues to come home and lead the campaigns.” 

Joisah Omenuwoma, who spoke on behalf of the youths, urged the local government council to declare a state of emergency on drug abuse. “Let’s declare a state of emergency on drug abuse in Isoko South,” he said.
