After sacking over 2000 workers at inception of his government, Delta state governor, Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, has again sacked over 145 staff of the state Post Primary Education Board (PPEB) for allegedly absconding from work. The affected staff include 52 workers who have either abandoned or absconded from their duty posts while 93 have been confirmed dead and nine others found to be irregular in attendance at work.

In a statement signed by Reginald Bayoko, Head of Service (HoS), says the measure was part of efforts by the Okowa led administration to check the ghost workers’ syndrome, sanitize the payroll system and rid the state public service of truancy.

According to the HoS, those who have been receiving salaries after absconding or abandoning their duty posts would be reported to the police and be made to face the full wrath of the law, even as he maintained that appropriate disciplinary action would be taken against the nine staff who were irregular in attendance at work according to relevant extant regulations.

Mr. Okowa had directed that the names of about 530 workers be deleted from the payroll for fraudulent falsification of their records of service, saying that the sum of N12.319 billion was recovered from the sack of the 530 civil servants.

HardReporters has observed that despite the continuous sack of civil servants in the state, governor Okowa has continued to reel out political appointments to his parry members.
