Barely fours days after the Executive Assistant to Delta state Governor Ifeanyi Okowa on Communication, Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, told the state former ex-convict Governor, James Ibori that he, (Ibori) cannot and will not be remote-controlled to do his job, HardReporters can exclusively report that embattled governor Okowa has begged Ibori for forgiveness.
The political feud between Mr. Ibori and Governor Okowa followed DSIEC DISSOLUTION (full story).
It would be recalled that in his reactions to the Ibori and Okowa feud, Mr. Oghenesivbe, had said “It will be wrong to insinuate that governor Okowa must consult ex-governors in all matters that enhances good governance before doing the needful; afterall the governor is not and will never be remote-controlled to do his job and to fulfil his campaign promises to the good people of Delta State, as captured in the SMART AGENDA blueprints.”
Mr. Oghenesivbe who took time to explained the reasons behind the dissolution of the state electoral body however said, “In the light of the above, it will be out of place and at the same time mischievous for any right thinking individual, group or few number of persons to say that governor Okowa dissolved DESIEC without consulting a former governor in the person of Chief Ibori.”
HardReporters exclusively learnt that, sensing he may lose his second tenure following the feud, governor Okowa had no option than to beg the former governor at his Oghara country home over the weekend when the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Reconciliation Committee and Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike led persons said to be emissaries, sent by former President GoodLuck Jonathan to reconcile with Mr. Ibori at his home town in Oghara, headquarters of Ethiope West local government area of the state.
A credible source who attended the reconciliation meeting said, at a close door meeting, governor Okowa begged Ibori profusely for forgiveness, especially not consulting him before dissolving the state electoral body headed by his nominee, Moses Ogbe.
“In the close door meeting, Okowa also begged for forgiveness in all he has done to slight Ibori especially some of his policies. In the close door meeting, governor Wike also made a passionate appeal to Ibori to see reasons with the Jonathan’s emissaries and tow the line of reconciliation and that to err is human and forgiveness is divine. Infact in shortest possible time, a meeting between Ibori and Jonathan will be arranged.” the source said.
Earlier before the close door meeting, governor Wike called for a stronger and united Niger Delta region to attract greater development to the area.
Mr. Wike was accompanied on the visit to the Oghara residence of the former governor by his Delta state counterpart, Mr. Ifeanyi Okowa, former acting National Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Mr. Uche Secondus, Senator Lee Maeba, Former Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Mr. Austin Opara, Former Minister of Sports, Mr. Tammy Danagogo and Administrator, Greater Port Harcourt City Development Authority, Mr. Desmond Akawor.
