The caretaker committee chairman of Irri community, Isoko South local government area of Delta state, Mr. Godday Igorigo, is said to have allegedly embezzled monies meant for the development of the community funds running into N3 million.
A bloody crisis is also said to be brewing in the community following the beating of war drums by Mr. Igorigo and his antecedents associated with crisis.
Speaking with our correspondent, two indigenes of the community who simply gave their names as Obaro and Oghenero, said, Igorigo, one time political aide to the member representing Isoko federal constituency in the house of representatives and former minority leader, Leo Ogor, accused the caretaker committee chairman of highhandedness, corruption and fraudulent practices.
“Igorigo Godday Excellence, have embezzled the community funds amounting to about three million naira and as I talk to you some of our leaders and elites of our community are currently demanding accountability from him. We the people of the community frowned at his criminal conduct of writing a constitution for the community just for him to hold unto power for another two years and we the community have also rejected him and his fraudulent constitution.
“He promised in an enlarge meeting of the community held on the 17th July 2019 at Irri town that “if Irri refused my proposal, Irri will go back to where he came from”, that means he will cause a bloody crisis in the community. Following his threats of bloody crisis, some of our leaders cried to the council chairman and Igorigo Godday Excellence was asked to listen to the community and not to use power to impose on the community what will cause a break down of law and order.”, Obaro disclosed.
Also speaking on the looming bloody crisis in the community, Oghenero, disclosed that “As we talk, Igorigo Godday Excellence, is recruiting bad boys in the community and has setup a group of youths which he stylishly named “monitoring committee” and been used as machinery to intimidate the community. Out of the seven quarters that made up of Irri community own, six quarters have adopted the used of the their 2018 constitution but Igorigo has pitched tent with the branches members which is considered the seventh quarter to hold down the community for about three years now.
“We the community believe that the council chairman will do the needful because the chairman has made it clear to Irri people that there will be no more transition committee but elective leadership.”, the indigene stated.
Meanwhile some indigenes of the community, however thanked and commended the Isoko South local government council chairman, Constantine Itiako Ikpokpo, alias (MALIK), describing him as a true son of the soil and peace ambassador, adding that the Irri Development Union is to be dissolved but the caretaker committee chairman, has vowed to cause a bloody crisis in the community should he be made to exit the seat against his wishes.
When contacted as at the time of filing in this report, all efforts to reach the caretaker committee chairman, Igorigo Godday Excellence, proved abortive as calls to his mobile lines (08032352***, 080264298***) were not responded to but sources close to the caretaker committee chairman, said he’s don’t dispose following a fatal accident he had on Saturday.
