Members of the Delta State Association of The Deaf, last week Friday besieged the premises of the Delta state house of Assembly, to seek for assistance as part of their 2019 deaf awareness week programme.
The deaf and dumb who came out in their large numbers both males and females were seen occupying the main entrance of the Assembly gate, thereby preventing vehicular movement into and exiting the premises as they refused to leave until the speaker of the house gives them audience.
After almost two hours of their stay at the gate, HardReporters reliably learnt that the news of the deaf and dumb at the gate filtered into the ears of the speaker and who was furious that they were kept outside without drawing his attention.
Our correspondent who visited the Assembly complex, saw the speaker of the house, Sheriff Oborevwori, directing some of his aides to immediately allow all the members of the group into his office, saying that associating with them provokes God’s blessings.
On arrival, the deaf and dumb told the speaker through an interpreter that they were in the Assembly complex to inform the speaker about the 2019 Deaf Awareness Week Programme, and seek for assistance as well as avail the house some of the challenges been faced by members.
Addressing the deaf and dumb, the house of Assembly speaker, Sheriff Oborevwori, through an interpreter thanked the group members for the visit and apologised for been kept at the gate.
The speaker, who called on the society to always associate and assist the deaf and dumb, promised them the continuous support of the House.
Oborevwori, therefore made a cash donation of an undisclosed amount to support the group to celebrate the yuletide season with their various families.
