….Issues 21 Day Ultimatum To Corps Marshall To Call Delta Command To Order

Delta state chapter of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) has said it will in August, 16, 2017 mobilise a mass peaceful protest against the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) over what it termed mass fraud and extortion by the commission on the registration of national drivers’ license in the state.

In a press release titled “Committee For The Defence Of Human Rights Delta State Chapter To Mobilize A Peaceful Protest Against Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC) For Extortion On National Drivers License” signed by the state chairman of CDHR, Prince .K. Taiga and made available to HardReporters stated that as a human rights body, “We can no longer sit in the comfortable chamber of disequilibrium while our state continues to burn under the gross and brutal extortion by the Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC) on National Drivers’ License.”

CDHR alleged that the FRSC command in the state has kept on extorting Deltans the sum of N18, 000, N25,000 and other unstable prices on acquiring the National Drivers’ License and therefore gave the Corps Marshal a 21 day ultimatum to call the state command to order by reverting to the normal official price of N6, 350 as approved.

“However, our investigation carried out in Warri, Effurun, Udu and Asaba axis confirmed this extortion as now the norm against the approved N6, 350 by the federal government. FRSC officers have vowed to frustrate anyone who will not key into the extorting prices with a tactics to delay and deny data capture for such individual. The Corp Marshall should hereby within 21 days call the Delta Command to order and revert this outrageous obvious extortion to normal as our eyes watch keenly.”

The human rights group calling on all Deltans to join in the protest and intellectual battle against the FRSC, as a stitch in time saves nine, urged the Presidency, the Department of State Security, (DSS), Inspector General of Police, ICPC, and other relevant anti-crime agencies to as a matter of urgency and importance extend the anti-corruption war to the “chronic corruption” in the FRSC.

On the issues of security in the state, CDHR poured encomiums and expressed absolute confidence on the Delta State Commissioner of Police (CP), Mr. Zanna Ibrahim, “For his quality policing. The CP since his inception has been able to reduce the rate of crime (cultism, police extortion, kidnapping, armed robbery and quick response to emergencies) in Delta State and we urge him to continue in the path of excellence. We also use this medium to notify the Delta state police hierarchy on our planned protest against the FRSC scheduled for Wednesday 16th August, 2017.”

Meanwhile, the Delta state command of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Asaba has debunked the allegations describing it as another attempt to tarnish the image of the commission.
