‘Erratic’ Delta Information Commissioner Goofs Again, Displays Buffoonery As Colleagues Insist There Was Robbery In Quarters

Popularly described as ‘erratic’, Delta state commissioner for information, Mr. Patrick Ukah has again goofed and displayed some levels of buffoonery when he could not differentiate between the word robbery and burglary while reacting to last weekend robbery at the state commissioners’ quarters in government house, Asaba.

The commissioner who was reacting to a story of the robbery at the commissioners’ quarters as reported by an online medium, SaharaReporters said, what happened was a case of ‘burglary’ which was not successful and as such the two commissioners mentioned in the story who were not at home as at the time of the incident could not be said to have escaped death as reported by the online medium.

In a statement entitled ‘SaharaReporters Story On ‘Govt House Robbery’ Untrue’ signed on behalf of the information commissioner, by his Media Assistant, Mr. Sam Ijeh, noted that “SaharaReporters story that there was a robbery attack in Government House, Asaba, over the weekend where it was purported that two commissioners escaped death is not true. What happened was a case of burglary in the commissioner’s quarters which was not successful.”

He wondered how the commissioners could have ‘escaped death’ when they were not around the scene, stressing that he expected the online medium to properly investigate the matter before rushing to misinform the unwary public.

Meanwhile Ukah’s colleagues and some aides to governor Ifeanyi Okowa who spoke on the condition of anonymity told HardReporters that the information commissioner who is always ‘erratic’ lied about the incident.

According to the commissioners, how can Ukah mislead the public that there was no robbery but unsuccessful burglary when official vehicles were tempered and apartments broken into by the armed robbers.

“You see, my colleague, the information commissioner, Mr. Ukah is a disappointment to the information ministry and the state at large. How can he say two apartments occupied by the commissioners for Women Affairs and Science and Technology, Mrs. Omatshola Williams, and Mr. Joyce Overah, broken into and their official vehicles vandalised be said to be a mere unsuccessful burglary.?

“As we talk now the security in the quarters has been tightened and because Ukah stays outside the quarters does not mean some of us who resides in the quarters don’t know ourselves. How can he say it was an unsuccessful burglary. The two commissioners were so lucky because the way we saw the incident if they were to be in nobody knows what would have been their fate now.” a commissioner said.

Also reacting, another commissioner, described Ukah’s statement as unfortunate insisting that there was robbery in the quarters.

“How can Ukah say there was no robbery when there was vandalization of vehicles and carting away of valuables.? Using the word escaping death was not out of place and of course you and I know that men of the under world hardly spare your life when they visit. Can Ukah also tell the public that the invasion of the old secretariat by hoodlums was unsuccessful burglary too.?” the visibly angry commissioner queried.

Special Assistants to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa on Youth as well as special duties who pleaded for anonymity told our correspondent that the commissioners’ quarters in government house was robbed and vehicles destroyed and the matter was still been investigated.

“No wonder people including government officials called him ‘Erratic’, how on earth can Ukah denied it that there was nothing like robbery. His statement is laced with lies and laughable. Recognising alone that it was a case of burglary but unsuccessful shows element of truth that the quarters was robbed. Why is Ukah lying and misleading the public.? Is it the first time robbery incident was taking place in the quarters.” the aide asked.

Another aide who confirmed the robbery at the quarters last weekend took a swipe at the information commissioner, describing him as the worst information manager ever had in the state adding that Ukah lacks qualities of a good information manager.

“Ukah is a failure, forget what he is paying people to write about him. Because of his ‘erratic’ nature he always clash with the CPS to the governor and other officials in the state information management. Ukah does not know his work and majority of the government officials know all this. Anytime, any day, Ukah is ‘erratic’. He behaves like someone who take some sort of strong substances.” the aide said.

It would be recalled that sometime in May, 2017, the Delta State Government House Annex in Warri was burgled and several items carted away by some unknown persons suspected to have been carried out action in connivance with some private security personnel attached to the building.

Security sources said that was not the first time the government house annex in Warri would be burgled in the last six months disclosing that last February, the same burglary incident was recorded within the premises where air conditioners and other electronic gadgets were carted away.
