Information reaching us in Abakilike, capital city of Ebonyi state, says the state governor, David Umahi is on rampage, mobilising armed political thugs and some mobile policemen, going round town shutting down schools belonging to one Ndubuisi Chibueze Agbo, a ‘perceived enemy’.
HardReporters correspondent in Abakilike, gathered that on Monday, thugs suspected to be working under the instructions of the state governor, led by the Special Assistant, S.A to the Governor on Internal Generates Revenue, (IGR), mobilised heavily armed Mobile Police men, stormed different schools owned by Mr. Agbo and Sealed them off.
It was learnt that the close down of the schools, is not unconnected to the petitions written by Mr. Agbo to President Muhammadu Buhari bothering on some unwholesome activities of the state governor which also came under matters of urgent importance in the Ebonyi State House of Assembly plenary.
According to sources, the thugs and the mobile policemen alleged that the institutions were owing the State Government arrears of taxes between 2005 till date.
Condemning the governor’s action, an indigene of Ebonyi state who simply identified himself as Obiora, gave some posers to the governor to solve, “Were the institutions sealed off fully approved by the state ministry of Education?. What are the modalities for collecting the said taxes?. Was there any form of a notice to the affected institutions to come forth with their payments?.
“The sealed off institutions owned by Prince Barr Ndubuisi Chibueze Agbo the only ones owing the staye government in the state.? Is it a coincidence or a political oppression that this is coming after Mr. Agbo’s letter to the President? Will it be correct to say that the ministries in Ebonyi State are jolted to duty when an individual is having a face-off with the government like in the case of Pastor Ononye?
“I will like to posit that the present attack on the institutions owned by Prince Barr Ndubuisi Chibueze Agbo is an afterthought meant to punish him for exercising his freedom of speech as a respectful and patriotic citizen of Federal Republic of Nigeria. And all well meaning citizens of this state will rise up and stand against such oppression.
“These institutions have produced many efficient and productive citizens who are contributing immensely in their different fields to the development of our nation and I believe that they are not going to allow any act that will jeopardize the future of the young ones currently in the different institutions.” Obiora said and warned the governor to against playing his politics with schools owned by Mr. Agbo.
