More members of the All Progressive Congress, (APC) in Sapele, Sapele local government area of Delta state on Thursday defected to the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), ahead of the January, 6, 2018 local government election scheduled to take place Saturday across the 25 councils in the state.
The mass defection which took place at the PDP a “special reception rally” held in Sapele, was led by APC chieftain in the State, Felix Anirah.
Receiving the defectors to the party, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, accompanied by the state Chairman of PDP, Kingsley Esiso received the defectors, observing that the return of Mr. Anirah to the PDP, was “the return of a big fish.”, assuring that his administration will not relent in providing good governance to Deltans.
Mr. Okowa commended those who contributed to the return of those who left the PDP for other political parties, saying “We cannot lose sight of the fact that it is political party that brought us to where we are today, so, we will continue to welcome our members back to the umbrella party. We will continue to work for our people, you should ensure that you go out on Saturday to vote,”.
Speaking during his defection at the event, Mr. Anirah, noted that it was a home-coming for him in the PDP, disclosing that the national chairman of the APC, Odigie Oyegun tried to dissuade him from going back to the PDP but, he said there was nothing left for the APC to offer him.
“Before I came here (to this special rally for me to formally dump the APC), APC national chairman called me and I told him that since APC is no longer convenient for me and my people, we are moving back to our party, the PDP.
“We will test our strength on Saturday during the local government council elections , the APC will not get any councillorship seat, but, the victory will be repeated in the general elections so that all will know that PDP is fully in control of Delta State,” Anirah said.
Also speaking, Paulinus Akpeki, observed that with the return of Anirah to the PDP, there is no more opposition in the State, especially in Sapele.
State chairman of PDP, Kingsley Esiso, averred that with the return of the leader of the APC in the state to the PDP, “there is no more elements of opposition in the State.”
