The campaign for the Delta state January 6, 2018 local government elections took a new dimension Tuesday when the state Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, his Deputy, Kingsley Otuaro, immediate past Governor of the state, Emmanuel Uduaghan led top politicians to campaign for the candidates of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP).
Governor Okowa who was visibly excited at the turn out of people for the campaigns, called on Deltans to justify the mammoth crowd by collecting their voters’ cards to enable them participate in the elections.
The Governor who attended three campaign rallies which commenced at Patani local government area in Patani and moved to Uvwie local government area at Effurun and Warri South local government area at Warri, stated that obviously, the PDP is strong in the state, emphasizing that what matters is the margin with which such victory is secured.
“Get your people to register and collect their voters cards to increase your voting strength, it is not enough to say you have won, the margin with which you win matters a lot, engage in rigorous campaign and don’t take things for granted,” Mr. Okowa said.
At Patani, Governor Okowa stated that candidates of the PDP will not discriminate against the people, asserting, “I am not discriminating, I am carrying everybody along and I know that the candidates will not discriminate after winning the elections because, they will be your representatives.”
While at Uvwie, Governor Okowa disclosed that plans are on for his administration to commence widows assistance programme in 2018, he stated at Warri that it was good that leaders of the party are united to deliver candidates of the party and are working for common purpose.
On his part, former Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, reeled out some of the achievements of the PDP-led government in the state, noting that the party has endeared itself to the people through the execution of people-oriented projects.
Chairman of the party in the state, Kingsley Esiso expressed confidence that with the success story of the PDP in the state, there is no opposition political party to challenge the PDP observing that some individuals may post stories on the social media claiming to belong to opposition political parties.
At the rallies, Mr. Esiso presented PDP flags to the chairmanship and councillorship candidates.
Some of those who spoke at the rallies include, Pius Sinebe, Jerry Eruvbeddede, Evelyn Oboro, Daniel Reyeneju, among others.
They lauded the leadership qualities of Governor Okowa which they say has solidified the PDP in the state.
