Delta state All Progressive Congress (APC) front line governorship aspirant and former speaker of the state Assembly, Mr. Victor Ochei, has said governor Ifeanyi Okowa has disgraced the people of Delta North and Deltans enough, and therefore challenged him to show Deltans his stewardship in the last three and half years in facts and figures to warrant his reelection come 2019.
Ochei, addressing a town hall meeting of hundreds of leaders and stakeholders of APC from Oshimili South, Oshimili North, Aniocha North and Aniocha South local government areas of the Aniocha/Oshimili federal constituency, in Asaba, challenged the governor to declare how much he met in the State treasury when he assumed office.
The governorship aspirant while making his intention known to his party men and women at the town hall meeting, described Okowa’s administration as the worst ever had since the creation of the state.
“Okowa administration is the worst government since the creation of Delta State. In three and half years, Okowa is still parading people’s projects. I am ashamed of what I see in Asaba, this is the smart less governor I have ever seen. Shine your eyes and elect candidate that can lead the state to promise land.
“Okowa kept saying he met huge debts to the tune of about N638 billion when he assumed office as governor, but has refused to declare how much he also met in the state’s coffers. How much did you meet when you assumed office as governor? We are informed and we know what we are saying. I challenge Okowa to a debate on the affairs of Delta State.
“Let Okowa come forth and declare how much he met in Delta State coffers when he assumed office. I was speaker in this state and we passed budgets and I can tell what we have in the books. He should stop bamboozling Deltans about debts. Okowa has disgraced us enough, so we have to change him now.
“Take a look at Asaba, the state capital and the Aniocha Oshimili federal constituency and draw your conclusions about the Okowa led PDP government. It doesn’t take donkey years to bring transformation in a state like Delta if you know what to do, I left my imprints at the Delta State House of Assembly in the three years of my speakership.”
Ochei, appealed to the people to vote him as governor come 2019, vowing that in two years if the people does not see significant transformation across the state, he should be written off.
The APC governorship hopeful, advised the party members who have not been registered electronically to do so immediately, saying that their votes would count on the day of reckoning.
“It is you that will determine who you want to be your candidates for all elections. Give me your ticket to be your standard bearer and you will see me lead Delta State to victory. We have just four more years as Delta North’s turn to rule the state.”
The former speaker stated that his desire to serve is anchored on “altruistic premises where our common patrimony won’t be the exclusive preserve of a few to the detriment of the many. It is an ideal which, I had continually nourished and sustained, by an implicit belief that the improved living standard of the polity is the veritable essence of governance. Let’s collectively believe and uphold these ideals, as they form the bases of progress.”
In the same vein, addressing party faithful during a consultation visit to the Ika Federal Constituency in furtherance of his governorship ambition in Agbor, headquarters of Ika South local government area of the state, the APC aspirant, Mr. Victor Ochei, opined that any serious administration does not need more than four years to turn around the fortunes of Delta State.
“My achievement in governance as an erstwhile Speaker of the Delta state house of assembly, did not take as much as two years, because I had a visionary blueprint of what I needed to do. And that’s what I will reenact if I emerge as the governor, come 2019.
“The first step towards bringing good governance to Delta State is to vote the All Progressives Congress into governance by choosing a resourceful flag bearer during the forthcoming party primaries.
“Since the people reserve the right to choose a governorship candidate, I can’t shy away from fraternising with them, because a “General” that cannot meet and feel free with his troops lacks the basic leadership prerequisite. My desire to build a new Delta is premised on justice and equity in all ramifications.
“As such, the Delta North senatorial district must complete its remaining four-year quota and it follows that an APC governor of Delta North extraction will mount the governorship saddle come 2019.” Ochei said.
Ochei however threw his support for direct primaries and urged other aspirants to endorse it as it prepares the party ahead of the 2019 general elections, noting that the touted fear of insecurity as inconsequential.
The APC governorship aspirant, in continuation of his consultation, he been able to visit APC leaders, elders, youths, women and men across the three senatorial districts of Delta state.
Meanwhile, a veteran Delta state politician and chairman of the All Progressives Congress, (APC), Sapele local government area, Mr. Lucky Esidge says that Mr. Victor Ochei Esq is the most suitable candidate who has the wherewithal to rescue the state from the current wanton mismanagement of human and financial resources.
Esidge stated this in Sapele during an interactive session between the former speaker with APC members within the Okpe, Sapele and Uvwie federal constituency.
“Of all the gubernatorial aspirants on the APC platform, Ochei stands out as one capable of wrestling power from the current PDP led government in the state”
Esidge, further submitted that Ochei’s achievements as the speaker of the Delta state House of Assembly coupled with sound knowledge of the political cum administrative dynamics of the state, lend credence to “my statement.”
