Be Rest Assured Of Your Rewards, We Won’t Joke With Your Welfare, Delta Council Chairman Promises Teachers

Primary school teachers in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta state has been promised that their welfare will be taken seriously, inspite of paucity of funds following the harsh economy.

Chairman of the council, Comrade Ovoke Friday Warri, who made the promise Wednesday while playing hoat to the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Isoko South wing in his office, noted that teachers remain important partners and key in achieving a positive turnaround of the education sector and the society through good morals.

According to the council chairman, teachers must be rewarded while alive even as he stressed the need to ensure that they are not denied their wages, he assured the commitment of his administration in the regular payment of their salaries and as at when due.

While commending teachers in the local government for their sacrifices and diligence in the discharge of their duties, Warri said that his government shall reciprocate the teachers gestures by regular payment of salaries and provision of infrastructure and learning materials in public schools.

His words, “This administration has good plans for the education sector; especially the agricultural sector, we intend to perterner with teachers to look towards agricultural issues across our schools, provide instructional materials. Nothing will stop us from paying your salaries as at when due and that is we ensured that workers are not owed salaries even though we are facing challenges. We will continue to give teachers’ welfare a priority. ”

In his speech earlier, the Isoko South wing of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, (NUT), led by its chairman, Daniel Odhomo, enumerated some of the challenges been faced by the union and appealed for support.

The NUT chairman who used the occasion to congratulate the council chairman on his election victory and subsequent swearing in, hailed the chairman for his interests  in education, and prompt payment of last month’s salary to primary school teachers.

Odhomo, however appealed to the chairman to come to their aid in the areas of constitution of education board for Isoko south, provision of pay slips to reflect actual salary, payment of promotion arrears to primary school teachers, the need to balance private school teachers with their counterparts in government schools and to look into some dilapidated primary school buildings among others.

The NUT leadership, assured the council chairman that teachers would continue to work hard for the local government to occupy pride of place in the field of education  in the state.

In another development, the chairman of Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta state Comrade Ovoke Friday Warri, has approved the immediate dissolution of all revenue committees in the local government.

Announcing the immediate dissolution on Wednesday shortly after a close door meeting with various revenue bodies, Warri directed all members of the dissolved revenue committees to immediately handover all necessary council properties in their possession and warned business owners and other residents of Isoko South council  who are yet to meet their revenue obligations for 2024 to wait till further notice.
