As the dreaded Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) continues to ravage globe without any cure to the pandemic, Delta state commissioner for Works, James Augoye Monday distributed bags of rice to residence of Okpe local government area of the state across political divide.
The distribution which was made in Opuraja is the second phase of the palliative measure by the commissioner to assist the people of Okpe to cushion the effects of the lockdown announced by the state government to control the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Augoye, however admonished Okpe residence to as a matter of importance always comply with the stay at home directive of governor Ifeanyi Okowa and as well as to follow the World Health Organization (WHO) guideline of social distancing in preventing the spread of the Covid-19.
During the distribution of the bags of rice, the media aide to the works commissioner, Obaro Egagifo, hinted that the commissioner had earlier distributed sanitizers and bags of rice across households of his immediate community of Jeddo, Ugbokodo and Ughoton before the lockdown.
According to the media aide, the commissioner decided to extend the gesture to the entire Okpe local government area in the second phase to meet the needs of most vulnerable people residing in Okpe and also in line with the passionate appeal by the state governor to well meaning individuals to extend a hand of support to the vulnerable within their locality.
