Delta state governor, Mr. Ifeanyi Okowa always referred to as “Deceptive” by political watchers in Delta state, has again fooled the people that the conduct of local government elections at the expiration of the current council administration was real.
But a top official of the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC), who countered Okowa’s claims, has maintained that Okowa is nothing but a serial liar without shame.
Okowa had declared Friday in Asaba during an enlarged stakeholders meeting of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), to celebrate the victory of the Ahmed Makarfi led caretaker committee at the Supreme court, that “We shall conduct the local government elections soon and I want to appeal to all those aspiring to start doing their home work now, reach out to the people and contribute your quota to the party because there shall be no endorsement from Asaba or anywhere.”
According to the governor, only those who are popular and acceptable to the people will be supported stressing that gone are those days where names will be written and changed in Asaba and Abuja adding that “Even in my local government, anyone contesting as my chairman must work hard because I will not sit here in Asaba and endorse or write someone’s name as in the past. You must show your popularity in the primaries and nobody is going to write or change names, so take note and do your home work very well.” Okowa said.
But in his reactions to the governor’s conduct of council polls before the expiration of the current council administration, a top official of the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC), who pleaded for anonymity, told HardReporters managing editor on phone that governor Okowa has missed the point, appealing to him to desist from deceiving Deltans on the conduct of council polls.
The DSIEC official, maintained his description of the governor as a serial liar who has no atom of shame, insisting that Okowa has not put in place modalities to conduct the local government elections at the expiration of the incumbent council chairmen.
“We have less that three months to go, he has not released a dime to DSIEC and he goes about deceiving the people, raising their hopes that he will soon conduct council elections and I ask how is he going to do the magic.? The truth is that Okowa has no confidence in Moses Ogbe’s led DSIEC as a result he has refused to use him to conduct the council elections but he has the guts going around lying to the people.
“We have another one year to the expiration of our tenure because ours is a statutory commission as such you can not wake up one day and say DSIEC is dissolved. And the only way he wants to remove us from office is through financial settlement. We are only waiting to be financially settled out of office so that Okowa can inaugurate his own people who will conduct the council elections next.
“I bet you it will take another seven to eight months to achieve his plans of conducting the elections. If all things work according to his plans, on or before December we may have been financially settled out of office to allow him install his own trusted DSIEC. Okowa claimed to be a born again christian, but there are no single Christ like attitude in him to actually show or convince the people with.
“I have always called him a serial liar and deceptive man. He is not a truthful man as he claimed. I advise him to desist from deceiving the people at every given opportunity. Its a pity nobody is asking questions. Local government elections will be conducted next year and already Heads of Personnel Management (HPMs are to take over the councils pending the conduct of the elections.” the DSIEC official stated.
