* Set To Wrestle Power From Delta PDP In 2019
The almost four years lingering crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC), Delta State chapter has been put to rest with a charge on members to bury the hatchet and work for the interest, unity and victory of the party in the 2019 general elections and to conduct a new congress for all encompassing State Exco that will expire in April, 2018 at the same time the current Exco ought to have elapsed.
The resolutions were reached at enlarged unification meeting of the party leaders at Onicha-Ugbo, Aniocha-South local government area of Delta state on Saturday at the instance of Mr. Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources and other leaders of the party including Mr. O’tega Emerhor, the party’s 2015 gubernatorial candidate, Mr. Victor Ochei, former speaker emeritus, Delta State house of Assembly, Mr. Olisaemeka Akamukali (member, Board of Trustees), Mr. Adolo Okotie-Eboh, Mr. Alex Ideh, Mr. Frank Kokori, Mr. Ayiri Emami, the State Working Committee (SWC) led by the embattled State Chairman of the party, Mr. Jones Ode Erue among others.
HardReporters recalled that similar peace meeting was called to Onicha-Ugbo, Aniocha-South local government area of Delta state at the instance of Mr. Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources but failed before another was later held in Abuja which was shunned by some factional leaders and elders of the party.
In a press statement entitled “Leadership Of Delta State Of All Progressives Congress, (APC), Reconciles Differences And Agrees On Party Unity”, signed by the party’s acting state publicity secretary, Mr. Leonard Obibi and obtained by HardReporters stated that the meeting resolved among other things as follows
“That All interest groups or individuals are to within 90 days withdraw all legal cases from court effective the date of this meeting. To request the National Working Committee (NWC) to take necessary steps, after the withdrawal of all court cases, to conduct a repeat congress for the election of an all-encompassing State Exco which tenure will expire at the same time as the current Exco in April 2018.
“That it was also unanimously agreed that there shall be no interim Caretaker Committee for the party, and that the repeat Congress shall be open to all party members, both old and new, to ensure comprehensive and all-inclusive participation. That the Delta State APC family has undertaken to start working together in unison and will continue to make whatever sacrifice is necessary for sustaining the peace and progress of our party.
“A general consensus that the party will make a public apology to any leader who have a case of libel in court as a result of previous publications of the party; and that those members of the State Exco on suspension for various infractions be forgiven and recalled through the proper channels of authority within the party.”
According to the party it has started taking immediate steps to implement the above resolutions and move forward adding that it’s totally committed to the path of peace and progress and used the opportunity to congratulate all its leaders for this renewed spirit of collaboration, and in particular the Minister, Mr. Ibe Kachikwu, who hosted both meetings for the success so far achieved.
“With the above collective agreement, all members of the Delta State Chapter of APC are resolutely poised to work harmoniously, and the party is now very well positioned to grow from strength to strength in pursuit of its political objectives.” the statement stated.
