For retrenching 568 staff of the state owned transport company, “Delta Line Transport Service Ltd.”, Delta state chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC), has taken a swipe at Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, saying its pure wickedness.
According to the party, the sack is not only insensitive to the plight of Delta workers but has shown that the governor is clueless and insensitive.
Reacting to the sack and taking a position, in a press release issued and signed by the State APC Publicity Secretary, Mr. Moses Kamanya, said it was sad to note that while other progressive governors were initiating people-oriented projects and engaging all other activities that would better the lots of her citizens, Governor Okowa was throwing Deltans into the already saturated unemployment market.
While condemning the action, the party noted that it was taken at a wrong especially now that Deltans were complaining over the ways and manner their collective heritage was being auctioned out to political allies who, it alleged, sponsored his governorship election in 2015 for a mere N161 million, for an equity, another investor bade for over N2 billion.
“568 breadwinners have been thrown into an uncertainty. Our independent investigation has shown that the management of God Is Good Motors (GIGM), who bought 70 per cent stake of the company from Delta State government, at a rip-off price of N161 million, has not invested a kobo since it took over.
“Like every action of the PDP-led government since 1999 which has always been anti-Deltans, if not how do you explain why a government will throw its citizens into untold hardship in the altar of political exigencies? Today the information out there is that, the new management has started recruiting non-Deltans employees from Anambra and Imo states at the expense of Deltans who laboured for the transport company for years, so whose interest is Okowa serving?
“We sympathise with the affected families over this unjust action of the PDP led government in Delta state and we want Deltans to see this as a wakeup call to vote out this insensitive and clueless government come 2019 and take back our state and commonwealth from these rabble rousers that have held the state hostage,” Kamanya noted.
HardReporters would recalled that governor Ifeanyi Okowa had last week announced the sacking of 568 workers of the Delta Line Transport Company.
Meanwhile in their reaction, the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), Delta state, stated that the “APC in a desperate attempt to muddle facts as they concern the Delta Line partial privatisation tried, albeit unsuccessfully, to whip up sentiments and score cheap political points.”
The statement signed by Mr. Ifeanyi Michael Osuoza, PDP State Publicity Secretary, obtained by HardReporters, said ordinarily we would not attempt to dignify that wishy washy press release with a response, but for the benefit of unsuspecting members of the public who may unwittingly be hoodwinked by APC’s cheap and vile propaganda.
“In the cherished values of transparency, accountability and prudent management of resources for which the Okowa administration is known for, the State Government advertised for Expression of Interest in the company in two national newspapers as required by law.
“After due consideration the State Executive Council preferred the bid submitted by God is Good Motors, a renowned transport company with proven track record of expertise, efficiency and sound management. Consequently, the State Government accepted its bid of =N=161m and divested 60% of its equity holding in the company
