Investigations by HardReporters revealed that Delta state civil servants were selected by government in the payment of their August salaries which was illegally and criminally deducted by the governor Ifeanyi Okowa led administration.
As at the time of filing in this report, a section of the civil servants are yet to be paid their August salaries.
Some of the workers who besieged their various banks were shocked when they were told that the fault was not from them but the state government who only pay few selected workers and leave others.
A civil servant who narrated to HardReporters correspondent how she went to GTB to know why she has not been paid her August salary, said “When I got to my bank, GTB for my August salary, I was told that the payment made was the few salaries posted to the banks and that they the fault is not from them but the state government.”
Another worker said “Till now I have not gotten my August salary and when I got to my Bank, Eco Bank, I was told that the bank only effected payment for August salaries to few workers with the few cash the state government made available. Upon the N10 billion Paris Club Refund and the allocation, governor Okowa is still finding it hard to workers salaries. What is really the problems with the governor.?” the worker asked.
All efforts to reach out to the state Accountant General, (AG), Cyril Agbele were unsuccessful as he rebuffed calls and messages to his mobile line but a staff in the office confided in our correspondent that several workers have called the office and the AG has continued to blame the delay on banks while the banks in turn blamed it on the state government, “the few payment carried out was done with the money made available by government, infact banks should not be blamed for workers who are yet to be paid.” the staff said.
