Early Morning Inferno Guts Delta Magistrate Court, Vital Documents, Files, Others Burnt To Ashes

Judicial activities were Wednesday, brought to a halt following an early morning inferno that gutted the Ogwashi-Uku Magistrate Court 1 in Ogwashi-Uku, headquarters of Aniocha South local government area of Delta state.

The court which is situated at Ogbeokwuni junction, beside Ogwashi-Uku Library, HardReporters gathered was burnt to ashes as well as so many vital documents, record books, furniture, files and exhibits among others.

HardReporters, gathered that the fire which started around 2:30am in the early hours of Wednesday could not be put off by men of the state fire service who arrived the scene.

According to an official of the Court who spoke with our correspondent on phone said the Magistrate’s chamber and the Registrar’s office were severely burnt while important valuables such as books, files, documents and others were touched too.

Government officials from the state ministry of Justice, Asaba, were learnt to have visited the Court to see the level of damage, while the Chairman of Aniocha South local government council, Isaac Anwuzia, represented by his vice chairman, Steve Asikawili has given a marching orders to the new Divisional Police Officer (DPO) to investigate the cause of the inferno.

As at press time, the circumstances that led to the inferno still remain unknown.
