Four mobile policemen are currently been detained at the Sapele police station, Sapele local government area of Delta state following the sudden death of a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former Director, Direct Labour Agency (DLA), Olorogun Lucky Ayomanor in their custody Wednesday night.

A police source who confided in HardReporters crime correspondent said the four mobile policemen were detained at the instance of the state commissioner of police, Mr. Zanna Ibrahim who was not happy over the incident.

Ayomanor who was on a visit to one of his elder brothers was accosted and searched by the police, who were on a “stop” and “search” duty along Gana road in Sapele and in the process a fully loaded revolver pump action was allegedly discovered in his SUV car.

Our correspondent gathered, immediately the police arrested Ayomanor when he could not provide the licence covering the arms found in his car and as Ayomanor was been taken to the police station he fainted and died while been rushed to the hospital by the police.

A source told our correspondent that “Chief Ayomanor humbly obeyed the policemen and while he was waiting, one of the officers brought a rifle saying that it was discovered inside his car and which he immediately denied and the police started beating him.

“After a while they took him to Sapele police station where they continue with the beating. Some of them were even alleged to have used their guns to hit him which made him fell unconscious. While on the floor, they left him there until one of them discovered the man was dying. Before they could rush him to the Central Hospital Sapele, he was already dead”, the source added.

Meanwhile as tension builds up in Sapele, youths in the area have vowed to avenge the sudden death of Ayomanor even as the deceased family denied the allegation that the deceased was in possession of a firearm when he was purportedly arrested at the checkpoint.

Deceased brother, Mr. Michael Okor, said that “The allegation was all lies, not true, you know the police like fabricating stories. Chief Ayomanor is a very peace loving man. What would he need a gun for? We will talk after the autopsy”, he said.

The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Andrew Aniamaka, who confirmed the detention of the four mobile policemen in Sapele police station over the sudden death Olorogun Lucky Ayomanor, said “He didn’t die in my police custody. He was going in his car when the officers at  Gana area of Sapele intercepted him and of course conducted search on him and they found a pump action gun loaded with cartridges. In the process where he was been taken to the station, he developed a strange illness and died on the way to the hospital.”
