Gov. Okowa Declares Monday Public Holiday For Schools To Mourn Departed Principals, Vice Principal

Delta state Governor, Mr. Ifeanyi Okowa has declared Monday, March, 27, 2017 as a public holiday and mourning day for public schools across the state as a mark of honour for three Secondary School Principals and one Vice Principal who lost their lives Friday in a road accident while on their way for an official assignment in Kwale.

It would be recalled that tragedy occurred on Friday when three school principals and one vice principal going for an official engagement in Kwale, headquarters of Ndokwa West local government area of the state lost their when the eighteen seaters bus they were in somersaulted severally between Oghara and Mosogar, Ethiope West local government area leaving other principals and the director of the Post Primary Education Board (PPEB) with various degrees of wounds and were rushed to the Delta state University Teaching Hospital, Oghara.

Declaring the public holiday on behalf of the state governor through a statement released in Asaba on Saturday and signed by the Delta State commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Chiedu Ebie and obtained by HardReporters, said the Ministry received the news of the tragic and untimely death of the principals and a vice principal with great shock, saying that the loss of the dedicated officers at the prime of their service to the state and the Nation has created a huge vacuum that would be difficult to fill.

While officially announcing the death of three secondary school principals and one vice principal in a road accident while on their way for an official assignment in Kwale, the state government expressed its deep heart felt to the other principals and director of the Post Primary Education Board (PPEB) who sustained various degrees of injuries in the accident.

“Consequently, the Governor of Delta State, His Excellency, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa has declared Monday, 27th March, 2017 as a day of mourning in all public schools in the state as a mark of honour to these dedicated officers.

“In this regard, affected schools (aside from those writing the WASSC Examinations) are to close down that day. Normal classes and school will resume on Tuesday 28th March ahead of the 2nd Term Examinations which will commence on Wednesday 29th March, 2017.

“The Ministry commiserates with the bereaved families, colleagues, students and loved ones and prays God to grant them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss and a full and speedy recovery to those recuperating in hospital.” the statement added.
