Former Secretary to Delta State Government, (SSG) and pioneer chairman of the state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists,, Ovuozourie Macaulay, has disclosed that he rejected pressure mounting on him to contest to the Delta south senatorial election in the forthcoming 2023 general elections, following what he called “disunity and hatred”, that has eaten deep into the fabrics of the foundation of Isoko nation.
Macaulay who was the former state Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, (NLC), disclosed this on Monday, while addressing a large crowd of his political groups, political family, leaders, elders and members of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), house of representatives aspirants in the 2023 general elections, supporters and loyalists, at at a get together at his country home Owhelogbo, Isoko North Local Government Area of the state.
According to Macaulay, “Any Isoko son or daughter running for the senate in the 2023 general elections, is taking a big risk. Because of the lack of unity, love and massive hatred in Isoko nation, I rejected the pressure mounted on me to contest for the Delta south senatorial election. The disunity and lack of love is deeply rooted in Isoko nation. Before now, it was not so but as at this moment right from 2015 till date, no one dare eat again in the home of his fellow man for fear of been poisoned. I don’t and will never in my life support or be a party to anything that will cause disunity and hatred in Isoko and those creating disunity and hatred in the land shall never know peace.
“Some persons think they are the owners of Isoko as such they have the right to singlehandedly nominate who represents the people. These are individuals we have supported politically through the ballots all these years to occupy the positions they are today. No individual has the sole right to nominate anyone to represent Isoko in any capacity in the forthcoming 2023 general elections. The mother’s breast is not meant for only one child to suck. Isoko people, you must wise up, you people must shine your eyes and say no to those if voted for will not come back home and will not remember Isoko.
“I must warn you the delegates, don’t give your votes to the wrong people, give your votes to the right people. Everyone of you must not forget that everything has changed now, our electoral system is gradually becoming stronger now and we are so so happy about it because gone are the days of ballots stuffing and snatching. Our votes must count now. Those planning to kill during the 2023 elections will be disappointed and shamed because they shall all fail. Those I have assisted in one way or the other, those I have contributed to their growth, those I have done good for both their children and wives are the ones paying me back with evil and the God I served will judge them all.”
Macaulay, who is the Director-General of the Warri Uvwie and Environs Special Areas Development Agency, (WUEDA), however enumerated some of the projects he influenced to Isoko land while in office as the SSG and blamed some of the leaders who for peanuts and crumbs from politicians tables shy away from the truth, adding that he will stand for the truth till death.
