ICAN Honours Ex-FIRS Coordinator, Onowakpo For Ethical Conduct, Integrity

For his high ethical conduct, integrity and social responsibility in the accounting profession, the Institute of Chartered Accountant of Nigeria, (ICAN), Port Harcourt and District Society, Saturday, honored the immediate past Rivers, Delta and Edo States Coordinator of Federal Inland Revenue Service, (FIRS), and the All Progressives Congress, (APC), House of Representatives Candidate, Isoko Federal Constituency, Mr. Joel-Onowakpo Thomas fondly called (JOT).

Mr. Onowakpo, who was the star awardee has over 22 years’ experience in both private and public sectors with strong success story in the Delta State Board of Internal Revenue, where he served as chairman, and raised internally generated revenue of the state from N14.4 billion to N50.4 billion, a record that has not been broken till date.

In his speech, the chairman, ICAN Port Harcourt and District Society, Mrs. Felicia Jones Ayuwo, said the awardees were carefully selected based on their antecedents in the accounting profession, stressing that the ward should spur them to attain greater heights in the accounting profession and other areas in the society.

Responding on behalf of other awardees, the star awardee, immediate past Rivers, Delta and Edo States Coordinator of Federal Inland Revenue Service, (FIRS), and the All Progressives Congress, (APC), House of Representatives Candidate, Isoko Federal Constituency, Mr. Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, appreciated ICAN for the honour done them and to be selected among numerous members of the institute who are doing great things in their various institutions, adding that ICAN is well known for quality training of its members.

“We are overwhelmed with joy for choosing us for this Merit Award. We sincerely appreciate the executive, the planning committee and members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria for finding us worthy to receive these awards.

“Over the years, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria has been at the forefront in the training and retraining of its members to meet up with most updated knowledge in the field of accountancy. It is a known fact, that due to the good job of the Institute; Nigeria chartered accountants are among the best in the world.”

Mr. Onowakpo who however used the medium to notify the Institute, that he resigned from the Federal Inland Revenue Service few months ago to enable him pursue his dream to represent the good people of Isoko nation at the House of Representatives, in the forthcoming 2019 general elections, stated that his people are in dire need for quality representation and has offered himself for that service.

Rivers state Bureau Chief of the HardReporters who witnessed the event reports that the event came to a climax with launching of the 2019 diary and calendar of the institute, while the Director General, Ithihikpebe Campaign Organization, Mr. Ambby Okuhor served as the chief launcher.

Among other awardees were, Ogbalubi Linus, Anthony Adisk Adiari, Isaac Okemini, Okoye Frederick Gozie Neville, Chimereze Chukwuma Okezie, Sampson Madu, Obinna Okoro, Friday Anuya, and Ekle Jerome Achadu.
