The chairman, Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), Igbide ward, Isoko South local government area of Delta state, Christopher Irivi-Ubulubu and two others have been arrested by the police over illegal possession of firearms and ammunitions.
Irivi-Ubulubu, who is said to be the chairman of all the PDP wards chairmen of Isoko South was arrested by the police on Wednesday along side two of his accomplices in a tip off.
Armed youths of Igbide community and hired mercenaries had on Wednesday invaded a neighbouring community, Emede and killed five persons and set ablaze several houses and properties worth millions of naira.
As a result of the bloody invasion of Emede, residents are said to have deserted the area for safety.
The renewed crisis is said to be an aged long boundary dispute between the two warring communities which resulted to the killing of hundreds of persons and destruction of houses and properties worth several millions of naira in 1986 and 1987.
Meanwhile, chairman of the council, Itiako Constantine Ikpokpo, has suspended the salaries of the two traditional rulers of the communities and imposed a 24 hour curfew on the two warring communities.
Rising from an emergency security council of the local government presided over by the council chairman, Itiako Constantine Ikpokpo, on the recent killings, arson and criminality in the two communities during the week, the council recommended to the state government the withdrawal of staff of office of the traditional ruler of Igbide, Edward Obukeni 1 and that of Emede, Johnson Omote Ewhiri 11, while the president generals of both communities seized to enjoy government recognition.
The President General of Igbide community was also declared wanted by the security council.
