Communities leadership in Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta state has been charged to as a matter importance eshew any act of violence inimical to peaceful co-existence among themselves.
Giving the charge Thursday, chairman of the council, Godwin Ogorugba while receiving the new leadership of the Okpe Isoko Progressive Development Union on a courtesy and familiarization visit in his office in Ozoro, expressed his gratitude for the visit even as he underscord the importance of peace as the foundation for sustainable development.
Ogorugba emphasized that without peace, it would be difficult to attract necessary projects to the community, adding that “I would like to advise you to maintain peace, as it is the major catalyst for development. People are reluctant to invest in communities where conflict is prevalent. Showing respect to your traditional institution within your kingdom is paramount. I advise that you show respect to your traditional ruler. No one from another kingdom will respect the stool unless your people do so first.”
On the community’s requests, the council chairman assured that he would do his best to address them, promising that “For the health centre, I will instruct the Head of the Department of Works to conduct an assessment,” and reiterated his commitment to working with the Okpe Isoko community for their collective growth and development, promising his administration’s full support where feasible.
Earlier, the leader of the courtesy and familiarization visit and President General, Okpe Isoko Progressive Development Union, Fredrick Efeh, congratulated the council chairman, Godwin Ogorugba on his victory at the polls and subsequent swearing in and assured him of the community’s readiness to collaborate with his administration for the betterment of the people of Okoe-Isoko.
Efeh, however listed the community’s key needs to include community health centre, a skill acquisition centre, improved road infrastructure, and the construction of lock shops and among others.
