The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has warned Patent Medicine Dealers in Delta state to desist from selling unauthorized and banned drugs and vaccines in their premises or face prosecution.
The warning was given in Asaba by the state coordinator, Mr. Jude Ndekile; an Assistant Director while displaying some unwholesome products confiscated by the agency.
“In course of our routine inspection we have observed that some Patent Medicine stores sell drugs that are beyond their mandate. Drugs such as high dose tramadol of 120ml, 200ml and 250ml were been sold in patent medicine stores while ban drugs like anlagen injections, gentamycin 20 injections and other injectable were found in some stores.”
According Ndekile, some stores were found to be selling oxytocin, tetanus toxoids and other vaccine drugs that are supposed to be refrigerated but were displayed in shelves and warned patent medicine dealers in the state to desist from selling such unauthorized and banned drugs apart from OTC drugs which their license cover as those contravening the law will no longer be made to pay administrative fine but face prosecution.
Ndekile also stated that some pharmacy stores were also sanctioned for offences such as inappropriate storing of drugs, sells of banned and expired drugs.
In another development, NAFDAC has presented 100 plastic seats to NYSC Delta state. The presentation took place at the orientation camp, Issele Uku in Aniocha North local government area of the state.
Delivering the address of the Ag Director General of NAFDAC, the state coordinator of NAFDAC, Mr. Jude Ndekile, a pharmacist, enumerated the activities and functions of the agency and the innovations the agency has put in place to fight the incidence of fake, counterfeit and unwholesome products across the country.
Responding, the NYSC Camp Director, Mr. Augustine Iwu thanked NAFDAC for the gesture noting that its one of the critical areas of their need that will enhance their operation in the camp.
