The senator representing Delta North senatorial district in the red chambers, Peter Nwaoboshi has received series of backlashes from the National Association of Anioma Students (NAAS-Worldwide) and citizens of the area for giving N25, 000 each to 40 disabled Anioma constituents as his own constituency empowerment to the disabled.

In a statement signed by the National President, National Association of Anioma Students (NAAS-WORLDWIDE), Imalah Ugoachanum, noted that the Anioma students condemns in its entirety the giving of N25, 000 each to 40 disabled persons as a constituency project by Mr. Nwaoboshi.

“It was a total act of public disgrace carried out by Sen. Peter Nwaoboshi representing Delta North Senatorial district at the red chambers, who after gathering about 40 disabled Anioma constituents for supposed empowerment, ended up giving them cash gifts of N25,000 each, which he termed as his empowerment to them.

“The National Association of Anioma Students (NAAS-Worldwide) joins our fellow Anioma Citizens nationwide today in condemning these dastardly and shameful act of supposed empowerment as we share the grief and sorrow of the masses of this great Anioma nation whose erratum and faux pas they will have to wait for the next two years before they can effect its correction.

“Our hearts equally goes out to the friends and families of these our parents with disabilities who are victims of this despicable tragedy who have been deceived into appearing before some paid media team and cameramen for their faces to be pictured as beneficiaries of what can be best described as an act of absolute deception and senatorial disgrace. In a time as hard as this where a bag of rice is equally about 25,000 naira, we keep wondering what meaningful effect the sum of N25,000 can do in the lives of our disabled parents for him to call it an empowerment to them?

“It is so sleazy and grovelling that from the same red chambers where a fellow Senator from Akwa Ibom State empowered his constituents with 30 cars and buses; four tractors; 800 (2.5 KVA) generating sets; 11 (6.5KVA) generating sets ; 24 (5.5KVA) generators, 55 block moulding machines\Listers; 113 computers/printers; 300 sewing machines; 200 grinding machines; 60 tricycles (Keke); 50 cargo tricycles; 10 cassava processing machines and 50 home grinding machines, Anioma Nation is bedevilled in this mortifying situation by a supposed Honourable fellow Senator which all he could do was to share mere N1m amongst 40 disabled persons.

“In a week where a State House of Assembly Member empowered just three able bodied constituents with over N11m, we have been left pondering and quizzical what a National Assembly member was thinking when he was sharing a mere N1m amongst a whole 40 disabled constituents and instead of calling it a mere gift went ahead to term it an empowerment. Something he can not boldly call a pocket money to his last grand child. What a Shame.

“In a state where a State House of Assembly recently empowered 160 constituents(students) with over N8m and another empowered 100 with N10m, a supposed distinguished Senator has refused to grow pass his archaic life style of politics by giving 40 disabled persons N25,000 each and calling it “empowerment”.

“From all sides of looks, National Association of Anioma Students (NAAS-Worldwide) has found this act, appalling, dishonourable, loathsome, execrable and godawful as no word from the dictionary can best describe how disgusting this act is, and as such without any reservations, condemns it in its entirety as we won’t hesitate to issue to the media houses and well known national dailies a press release for wide publication if such a disgraceful act repeats itself.”

According to the statement, “In case you don’t know, Sen. Peter O. Nwaoboshi, Empowerment isn’t a buzzword among leadership gurus. It’s a proven technique where leaders give their teams the appropriate training, tools, resources, and guidance to succeed. Go back to your drawing board and do the needful.” the statement added.
