Prof. Benjamin Okaba of the Department of Political Science and Provost, Oleh Campus, has been fired by uthority of the Delta State University, Abraka, and barred from holding any official position in the institution for five years over alleged sex harassment, financial extortion and misconduct.
Also fired and sanctioned were Professor Mrs. O.D. Ogisi, Dean, Post Graduate School, six lecturers and eight non-academic staff and 40 other staff of the institution for various offences while the institution’s Chief Accountant was dismissed for absconding from duty post since 29th October, 2012.
In a statement obtained by HardReporters which was signed by the University Registrar and Secretary to the University’s Senate, Mr. Daniel Urhibo, stated that the affected staff were dismissed following the approval of the Governing Council of DELSU, adding that the dismissed workers were thoroughly investigated by the Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee (SSDC ), who also recommended for their dismissal from the services of the university based on the gravity of the crimes committed.
According to the statement, “the council has considered and approved the recommendation from the Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee.”, adding that university’s Governing Council made the decision during its 101st regular meeting held at the university and implemented the recommendations of the committee.
