Delta state commissioner for Works, Mr. James Augoye has lied to Deltans and the general public that contractors been used by governor Ifeanyi Okowa to construct roads across the state were all first class contractors whose jobs can stand the test of time.
The commissioner who ridiculed himself on air and shot himself on the foot last week Wednesday, when he featured as a guest on Hot 96. 5 FM, Asaba, radio program “People’s Parliament”, monitored by HardReporters correspondent, maintained that “All our contractors are first class contractors doing standard roads that will stand test of time.” he said.
Augoye who could only mentioned SETRACO construction company as one of the first class construction firm working in the state however stated that the Okowa led administration has constructed over a hundred standard roads within and outside the state capital revealed that the a sewage underground drainage system with 2.5 diameter, worth N1.7 billion naira connecting DLA, Jesus Saves and Agric roads in Asaba was awarded last year by the Okowa led administration to curb the menace of flood in the state capital, adding that the two discharge points, Marble Hill and Cornerstone are connected to Iyiabi river across the Asaba-Benin expressway.
While appealing to residents of the state capital to be patient as the incessant flooding would soon be a thing of the past, the works commissioner disclosed that work cannot commence on the DLA /Jesus Saves axis until the underground drainage is completed, adding the state government has contracted a firm to do a study of the DBS road which is the lowest point of Okpanam road.
According to Augoye, he has instructed the contracting firm handling the Okpanam road project to place caution barriers at the manholes on the Okpanam road walkway to avoid people falling in during floods even as he stressed that covering up the manholes would make distilling the drains impossible.
Meanwhile, independent investigations carried out by this medium revealed that the works commissioner has not only demonstrated a high level of deception but fooled himself before Deltans when he is fully aware that it’s mushroom contractors that are executing roads for the state government with cooperate headquarters in Asaba and Agbor.
When our correspondent moved around some of the commissioned roads, it was observed that less than six months of execution, they have caved in following their poor execution with substandard materials while majority of the construction firms signposts was showing Enterprises, Resources, Ventures and Technologies Limited companies based in Asaba and Agbor.
These companies, it was learnt belonged to governor Okowa’s kinsmen who he is said to be empowering financially for his 2019 second tenure governorship elections.
