Delta state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Zanna Ibrahim, on Thursday tongue lashed the inexperienced Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), DSP Andrew Aniamaka over his ineptitude and insubordination.
Narrating the incident to HardReporters, an anonymous police officer who witnessed the scenario said it all started when commissioner of police directed the PPRO to make sure the command’s conference hall was tidy up in preparation to receive members of the Asaba Correspondents’ Chapel and the Indigenous Correspondents’ Chapel (ICC) of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council on a courtesy visit.
According to our police source, the command’s image maker failed to carry out the directives of the CP to clean up the chairs and table that were covered with dust and this irked the police boss who arrived the hall with his guests and immediately began to tongue lashed the PPRO before over 30 Journalists who came for the visit.
Our police source quoted the visibly angry commissioner of police as saying “This man you are very wonderful. You can see the place where you are seated?” Referring to the journalists who were already seated on the untidy environment.
Our impeccable police source disclosed that as the PPRO was about to apologise, the CP shut him down immediately saying “Just shut up before you get me angry. In your best interest shut up.”
At this junction, our source said, the former Vice chairman of the state NUJ council, Felix Igbekoye, chairman of the Asaba Correspondent’s Chapel, Paul Osuyi, chairman of Indigenous Correspondent, Barth Ozah and the former chairman of Indigenous Correspondent Chapel, Spence Friday Idigrhi swiftly intervened and saved the PPRO from further disgrace by his boss.
“They apologized profusely on behalf of the PPRO whom they say was dear to their hearts, “he is one of us, if anything affects that office, it affects us because he is part and one of us.” as they begged the CP” the police officer told HardReporters on phone.
Meanwhile, a staff attached to the PPRO’s office, confirmed the incident which went viral in the command adding that “Several persons have complained to the CP about the ineptitude of the PPRO. He is very inexperienced and weak to in attending to Journalists especially when trying to confirm stories. And all this complaints always get to the CP. The best PPROs ever had in the command were Mr. Charles Muka and Celestine Kalu and Journalists can attest to that.”
