*** Teachers To Resume Classes Monday

The leadership of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Delta State chapter has finally bowed to what is been described as intimidations and threats by the state governor, Mr. Ifeanyi Okowa to call off its two weeks old industrial action.

Following severe pressure and intimidation, NUT leadership few days ago held a meeting with governor Okowa at the government house annex in Warri where the union told the media of plans to call off their strike soonest.

Okowa had ordered that teachers should resume classes with a threat of “No work, No pay” should the teacher fail to obey the directives and as teachers paid deaf ears to the directives, the governor resulted to the use of security agents to intimidate and harass teachers.

Rising from a crucial meeting Friday held at the NUT Secretariat in Asaba, the state capital, the state chairman of NUT, Mr. Jonathan Jemirieyigbe said teachers in primary and secondary schools have been directed to resume school Monday 26, 2017
without fail.

In a communique’ issued to newsmen, the chairman said NUT and the state government has reached an agreement to resolve the issues that led to the two weeks strike embarked upon by teachers across the state.

In an interview with HardReporters, some officials of union expressed disappointment over the way and manner the union was intimidated and pressured to called off the strike.

One of the officials who does not want her name mentioned said, “In democracy people are still been intimidated for fighting for their rights. Governor Okowa’s administration is the worst, self centered and does not bother about teachers plights. Very wicked administration and yet blanket the people with church and born again when right inside his heart is wickedness and corruption.

“What has Okowa done with all the federal government bail out funds.? Why are teachers and council workers still been owed.? Because the funds were not used for the purpose it was released.” one of the officials stated.

According to another furious official of NUT, “Okowa is a monumental failure and big disappointment. Okowa will not taste that seat again, because civil servants in the state are praying seriously both fasting. Go to offices and see the rate of corruption and fraud been perpetrated by Okowa’s loyalists and political associates in government.

“Okowa is a smooth operator as far as looting of the state treasury is concerned but God shall expose him since the plight of teachers does not bother him. We hope this time around all our demands will be met after all intimidations to resume classes.”

A school principal who spoke with HardReporters lamented the manner teachers, especially those in primary schools are been treated by the Okowa led administration.

“No money, no money, no money but there is money to build for his wife a multi million naira ” Royal Mira All Saints International School” in Asaba been operated by a crony in the person of Mr. Moses Iduh, Delta North PDP chairman. We know all this things.” the principal said.
