Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state has taken a swipe at his senior special assistant on beautification, Prof. Sylvester Monyi for not been proactive and utilizing his office to attract development and investors to the state.

Okowa’s queried on his aide came during the commissioning of the Chinedu And Sons Ultra Modern Office Complex And Dangote Cement Warehouse, along the Asaba/Benin Expressway, Oshimili South local government area of the state shortly after an address by the Chairman, Dangote Group of Companies, Alhaji Aliko Dangote.

Dangote while delivering his speech said he would see how he could influence Cement Technology Institute to Delta State following the inability of Nigerians to build houses that stand the test of time.

“We don’t have so many Nigerians who knows how to build, hence building is very expensive. That is why we want to take upon ourselves to spend something like N4 to N5 billion to train Nigerians to know how to build so that we don’t have to be bringing people from Ghana, Togo to come and be building for us and that is why we want to lunch one of the institutes here in Delta state.” Dangote stated.

Okowa on hearing this took a swipe at his aide, lamenting that he has not made good use of his office.

Okowa told Dangote that he would be on his neck to see that the promise is realised. “I will be on your neck and your friend Prof Monyi is here too. In fact I am going to hold him for not doing the right thing. He is your friend and he has not even brought you to Delta State at all. So, I am wondering if he is utilizing that friendship for the good of our people”.

Okowa noted that the promise of Dangote to influence the institute to Delta would be a combined reminder from all Deltans to ensure that the promise was fulfilled.

Prof Monyi was the Special Adviser to former President Goodluck Jonathan
on Project Monitory and Evaluation and a former governorship aspirant in the state before Okowa appointed him as his senior special assistant.
