Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state has said that Nigeria needs God to survive; even as he charged Christians to continue to pray for the unity of the country and against anything that could bring about another war in Nigeria.
The governor gave the charge Sunday during the 2nd anniversary thanksgiving service of the 6th Assembly of the Delta State House of Assembly held at the Living Faith Church, Asaba.
According to the Governor, “Nigeria needs God to survive; by the grace of God, Nigeria is one and will remain as one. Christians should continue to pray for the country, we don’t want to see war. In this time, we don’t need another war, it is time for us to think and reflect on the past and build a greater, more united country.”
The governor reminded the people that it was time for all and sundry to reexamine their entire lives and homes and to think of “Our existence; we need to reflect on things we do as parents and what we are inculcating into our children because, as parents, we must build in our children the knowledge of God for us to have a better society.”
Governor Okowa while commending the state house of Assembly for a successful anniversary, remarked that the legislators have been very diligent in serving God and diligent in working with him to serve Deltans adding that “I believe that Lord has been very faithful to you and you have worked very diligently with God and has worked very diligently with me.”
Reading earlier from Psalm 100: 1-5, Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Mr. Sheriff Oborevwori said the essence of the thanksgiving service was to appreciate God for his good works and urged Deltans to continue to support the state government.
“We are here today to thank God for our journey so far in the Delta State House of Assembly. God has been very faithful to us; you cannot do anything without God. Nigerians must put God first in all that they do and this is why we came here today to thank Him for what He has done for the Delta State House of Assembly and what He will still do for us in the House”. the speaker said.
Earlier in his sermon, the resident pastor of the Living Faith Church, Winners Chapel, Pastor Julius Oyinloye said thanksgiving is expression of peace and thanksgiving is the will of God while giving him thanks is application for more.
“The Glory of God must be given to Him. Every time, you give thanks to God, you are asking for more. Give thanks always for everything”.
The thanksgiving service which was attended by the state Deputy Governor, Mr. Kingsley Otuaro, traditional rulers, members of the state house of Assembly among other top federal and state government functionaries both elected and appointed also witnessed the cutting of the 2nd anniversary cake during a reception held at the legislative quarters.
