The chairman of Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta state, Comrade Friday Ovoke Warri has bagged The Pointer Newspaper public service award for his immense contributions to the society.
Receiving the prestigious award on Monday in Asaba, the state capital during the state owned newspaper’s 30th anniversary celebration with the themed ‘Honouring Truth and Unity Through Excellence in Public Communication’, Warri expressed gratitude to God almighty and dedicated the award to his late mother and the people of Isoko South, who he considered as an honour to serve them as their number citizen.
“I extend my gratitude to the management and staff of The Pointer Newspapers for this esteemed recognition and honour done me. Upon assumption of office, I prioritized executing our five-point agenda, leveraging local networks to support Isoko South projects and programs, and I am delighted that our efforts are being acknowledged.”
At the well-attended event, the state governor, Sheriff Oborevwori also bagged The Pointer newspaper ‘Exemplary Democrat and Transformational Leadership Award’.
Oborevwori, underscored the crucial role of media in fostering accountability and transparency among political leaders, as mandated by the constitution, through fact-driven and responsible reporting.
The governor urged journalists to downplay news that aggravate the religious and ethnic fault lines in the country for the sake of enduring peace and sustainable national development
