Few foresaw the emergence of Elder Godwin Ogorugba as Chairman of Isoko North Local Government Area in 2024.
Yet, as former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte once remarked, “Destiny is not crafted by mere mortals; it is shaped by God.”
Ogorugba’s political ascent appears divinely orchestrated, and it is the people of Isoko North who are reaping the rewards.
Upon assuming office on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, Elder Ogorugba wasted no time addressing pressing issues. He immediately assessed the deteriorated Otor Owhe-Owhelogo link road, a hazardous path for commuters. Within weeks, repairs were underway. Soon after, another critical project—the rehabilitation of the damaged section of Otor Iyede road—further highlighted his commitment to infrastructure development. This shift marks a departure from the usual focus of local council chairmen, who traditionally limit their efforts to feeder roads.
In Ofagbe, Ogorugba recently laid the foundation for a 15-lock-up shop complex with conveniences, as part of his effort to advance the MORE Agenda of His Excellency, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, the Executive Governor of Delta State at the grassroots.
Education has also been a priority. Ogorugba distributed notebooks to all 43 public primary schools and provided school bags and other learning materials to selected schools within the local government.
In terms of maintaining peace, the chairman has quietly resolved several conflicts since taking office, preventing them from escalating into larger crises. Though kept out of the public eye due to their sensitive nature, these efforts have been crucial in sustaining harmony in Isoko North Local Government.
The emergence of Elder Godwin Ogorugba as chairman has not only been a blessing to the general public but also to the staff of the council. Working conditions have improved significantly, with the provision of computers and other office equipment. The administrative block has also undergone some repair, including the installation of tiles, giving the secretariat a fresh new look.
As his tenure continues, there is anticipation for even more groundbreaking initiatives as Elder Ogorugba leads the council forward.
