Political crisis is currently said to be brewing in Aniocha North local government council following fight between the council chairman, Chuks Oseme, the member representing Aniocha North constituency in the state Assembly, Emeka Nwobi and the commissioner for culture and tourism, Dan Okenyi following power of who controls the council.
It was reliably gathered that a faction of councillors were sworn-in Monday by Mr. Nwobi and Mr. Okenyi at the council secretariat, Issele-Uku with Nwobi loyalist, Ekene Nwaonye of ward 8, as the legislative leader without the consent of the council boss, Mr. Oseme.
Mr. Ekene Nwaonye, was a member of the All Progressive Congress, (APC), and minority leader of the immediate past legislative arm of the council and imposed on the people of ward 8 by Mr. Nwobi as Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), councillorship candidate in the last January, 6, 2018 council polls after allegedly bribing the leadership of the local government and state PDP with the sum of N5.1 million.
Our correspondent gathered that during the inauguration of the legislative arm, security men stationed at all corners of the secretariat as well as the entrance.
“We were shocked yesterday, (Monday), when the lawmaker and the commissioner stormed the council and inaugurated the legislative arm without the council chairman and notable leaders of the council. N50, 000 bribe was given each to the factional councillors by Mr. Nwobi to elect his candidate, Mr. Nwaonye as the leader of the legislative arm. Presently, the councillors are divided, we now have two factions of councillors.” staff of the council lamented.
Meanwhile, HardReporters, can authoritatively report that council chairman, Chuks Oseme will be swear-in today, Tuesday another faction of the councillors loyal to him with the inauguration of the legislative arm of Aniocha North and election of another factional leader.
