The chairman of Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta state, Friday Ovoke Warri has said that the establishment of Mary-Martha College Of Nursing Sciences by the Anglican Diocese of Oleh, headquarters of the council is no longer a project of the church alone but also for the local government, the state and the entire society.

The council chairman who stated this Monday while playing host to a high power verification and accredition team of the National Universities Commission (NUC) who paid him a courtesy visit in his office, noted that the medical institution has bridge the gap in medical education in the local government and state
According to Warri, Mary-Martha College of Nursing Sciences which is affiliated to Niger Delta University, in Bayelsa state, Isoko was lacking medical education and qualified manpower in the health sector, and described the visit of the NUC accreditation and verification team as auspicious as Isoko was in a hurry to catch up with other regions in terms of education, especially in health and safety.
Warri observed that churches were recognised for establishing primary and secondary schools and was pleased to see the establishment of a nursing school that has made it more significant as the idea, though, originated from Bishop John Oruakpor, but now a project for the entire community, with the local government actively participating.
“It’s no longer a project of the church alone but also for the local government and the state; it’s now a project for the entire society. I assure you today, by the special grace of God, we will provide all necessary assistance to ensure the school flourishes for the benefit of our people.”
The council boss urged the visiting NUC team to conduct their assignment with empathy and encouragement, offering objective assessments and recommendations to enable the local government to enhance its support for the institution.
Speaking earlier, the leader of the accreditation team from the National Universities Commission, Ekine Frank-Iputu, explained that they were in the state to assess the facilities and human resources available at the Mary-Martha College of Nursing Sciences, Oleh which is in affiliation with Niger Delta University.
Frank-lputu, Director of Academic Strategic Planning and Quality Assurance at NDU, stated that the exercise aimed to enhance the Nigerian universities system, particularly within the Isoko nation.
According to her, the exercise would take only a few days to complete, adding that the verification team would conduct its assessment and submit its report to the NUC, which would render its verdict based on the team’s findings; however, they were at the council chairman’s office to inform him of the purpose of their visit.
The NUC team had in its entourage, medical experts and professors, including Prof. Middred E. John, Prof. Clementine U. Nwanhew, Mr Nosayaba Ehigie, Dr Biokurom Fyremani, and Dr (Mrs ) Helen Wankesi.
