The much publicised ‘SMART’ agenda of Delta State governor, Mr. Ifeanyi Okowa, is said to have suffered a set back as pupils are subjected to learning under what it’s been described as very harsh and unconducive environment at the Illoh Primary School, Egbudu-Akah, Aniocha North London government area of the state. A HardReporters correspondent who visited the school last week observed that the Okowa led government has abandoned one of his electioneering promises to the people.
It was critically observed that the Primary School lacks school furniture for it’s pupils and teachers as pupils are made to sit on head of desks to learn and write while teacher’s tables lacked chairs. The classroom blocks are dilapidated as the doors, windows and the roofing which included the ceilings and zincs are in a very bad state.
HardReporters recalled that during his quarterly media interaction with journalists last week at the Press Centre, Government House, Asaba, governor Okowa told Journalists that, “Under the Universal Basic Education, 1, 117 classrooms have been constructed or renovated for use. 12, 830 pupils desk have been provided with 3, 214 teachers furniture have been provided. We have also renovated or constructed 327 classroom blocks of various sizes and 5, 808 teachers furniture have been provided with 48, 332 students furniture provided in the course of time”. But this contrary to what is on ground at the Illoh primary school.
Speaking to our correspondent, one of the teachers who pleaded for anonymity described the treatment been inflicted on the Illoh Primary School by the Okowa’s administration as “wickedness” adding that the governor is deceptive and he has failed the people.
“Illoh Primary School lacks government presence. We have never benefitted anything from the Okowa government, you can see for yourself that all the aforementioned furniture and renovation can not be found here in this aged long
primary school.” the teacher lamented.
