Pro-Uduaghan Group Disrupts Okowa’s Sponsored Anti-Uduaghan Protest In Delta

The much talked about anti-Uduaghan protest against the immediately past governor of Delta state, Mr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, allegedly been sponsored by the incumbent governor of the state, Mr. Ifeanyi Okowa and his principal secretary, Mr. Hilary Ibegbulem was disrupted Wednesday, by a group suggested to be followers and supporters of the former governor.

The meeting of the two groups which almost resulted to bloody fight started at the Delta State government house gate, Asaba, when a group known as “One Belle” stormed the venue of the anti-Uduaghan protest, chased away the protesters allegedly hired by the Delta governor, Mr. Ifeanyi Okowa and his principal secretary and disrupted the procession at the government house gate, Asaba.

Before converging at the government house gate, Anwai road, the leader of the group Oghenedoro Pedro Otega (alias) Fejiro Oliver, had told Journalists that Okowa’s Principal Secretary, Hillary Ibegbulem, instructed them to converge at the Cenotaph and also instructed the police not to dare shoot anyone of the hired boys.

Oliver, who was seen hiding behind security men at the government house gate narrowly escaped from been lynched by the group of “One Belle” after receiving some punches from some members of the “One Belle” group.

Before running away, HardReporters observed that Oliver put a call across to Okowa’s principal secretary, Mr. Ibegbulem whom he said loudly to the hearing of everyone present that was aware of their protest and directed them to protest down to the government house gate.

Earlier, when our correspondent visited Cenotaph, the initial take off point of the unsuccessful protest, over a 100 heavily armed stern looking mobile policemen with over 10 Hilux Vans were stationed around the empty venue before the news filtered in that the anti-Uduaghan protesters have converged at the government house gate to begin procession when the Uduaghan group stormed the scene.

As tension builds up at the government house gate, where armed anti-riot stern looking mobile policemen with Hilux Vans were stationed, some of the Okowa’s hired boys began to accuse the policemen of wanting to truncate the whole process, saying the policemen seems to be supporting the pro-Uduaghan group.

“The police know what they are doing and I know that they have been instructed to stop this protest. Why is the Commissioner of Police, the DPO and other senior officers we have written letters to not picking their calls?” one of the boys lamented.

Some of the placards displayed by the anti-Uduaghan protesters read thus: “#IstandforUduaghantobejailed#, #236 billion DESOPADEC funds diverted by Uduaghan. All Deltans want is justice.” among others and called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of Uduaghan.

Speaking to Journalists, some of the pro-Uduaghan protesters said Uduaghan did well while in office adding that “He served the state well and to his capability as a governor, he took the Asaba International airport to an enviable level, constructed roads, paid workers salaries as at when due.”

They described Oliver as a serial ‘blackmailer/extortionist and accused governor Okowa of sponsoring an unreasonable protest against a man who served the state meritoriously and also served in his tenure as Secretary to the State Government (SSG) before going to the senator.

“You can see how we chased them away and disrupted their sponsored and illegal protest against a man who did his best as a governor.? You see how Oliver was attacked and chased into government house. You see how he was taking refuge in the policemen but the officers also could not help him as they also in turn pushed him off their protection and that is to treat evil people and blackmailers.” one of the pro-Uduaghan boys said.
